MOST POPULAR

  • Supports teachers in understanding the shifts in reading instruction from balanced literacy to reading research strategies, including phonics instruction. Participants will explore these shifts and learn practical strategies to apply in their reading instruction, incorporating effective phonics practices. This PD equips teachers with the tools and knowledge to enhance their teaching practices and promote student success in reading.

  • Focuses on developing educators' understanding and skills in phonemic awareness instruction. Participants will learn how to effectively teach students to listen and hear individual sounds in words, a foundational skill for reading and spelling. The PD provides practical strategies and activities to enhance phonemic awareness instruction in the classroom. CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

  • Supports educators in developing a shared understanding of the curriculum, setting goals, administering assessments, establishing positive classroom routines, building relationships with students, differentiating instruction, creating a welcoming environment, partnering with families, and involving students in goal-setting.

  • Highlights the importance of setting clear expectations and establishing routines to promote student independence. Participants will explore executive functioning skills and their relevance in fostering independence among young students. Strategies to support and improve executive functioning skills will be identified, with a focus on addressing challenges related to attention and organization. Participants will create tools to support student independence in upcoming lessons and assess their classroom for areas that already support executive functioning and independence, as well as areas that may need modification for better support.

SMALL GROUP INSTRUCTION

  • Focuses on developing a deep understanding of small group instruction and acquiring effective classroom management strategies to support it. Participants will learn about the workshop model of teaching and gain skills in writing small group lesson plans. They will practice teaching small groups using different techniques and strategies. The program also covers using data to plan small groups for various subjects and guides participants in creating toolkits for math, reading, and writing small groups and conferences. This includes creating modeled writing pieces and collecting templates for reading and phonics instruction.

  • Reflect on current practices and identify areas for growth in small group instruction. Participants will address challenges associated with pulling small groups and develop strategies to overcome them, including building tools for classroom use. They will also identify successful components of their small group instruction and incorporate them into future lessons. The PD emphasizes examining recent data to form student groups and designing tailored small group lessons for specific needs. Additionally, participants will collaborate with grade levels to co-plan small group lessons for math, reading, and writing.

DATA DRIVEN INSTRUCTION

  • Explore the difference between real-world and traditional assessments while debunking common myths about assessments. Participants will gain an understanding of formative and summative assessments, their purposes, and examples. The program highlights the value of authentic assessments for student learning and provides hands-on practice in creating aligned assessments. Strategies for using authentic assessments, analyzing student data, and reflecting on assessment effectiveness will be developed.

  • Focuses on reviewing beginning of the year assessments, reflecting on the curriculum plan, and making adjustments based on the data. Participants will learn effective techniques for taking anecdotal notes and understanding learning expectations and progressions. The program emphasizes data analysis to identify students' current levels of understanding and set goals accordingly. Participants will also plan a whole or small group lesson for the following week, using the data provided during the professional development.
